Mud Season- Maine's 5th season

    We have a 5th season here in Maine- known affectionally as Mud Season.  It's the time of year that varies depending on the amount of snow and whether or not the ground frozen before the snow. Mud season is between winter and spring. Signs of approaching mud season are weight limit signs on roads. This means trucks over certain weights can not access roads that have been posted. This means if you are planning on a special delivery you may need to inquiry about the size of the truck making the delivery. I have had to meet trucks on approved roads and off load the delivery ontop my truck because the big truck couldn't go on my road.
    Another sign of mud season is barriers in driveways and on the edge of lawns. This can mean that some folks will have to park at the end of the driveway and walk to their house. ( this also happens frequently during the winter). This year for the first time I have to put up a barrier in the driveway here- seems a new wet hole appeared for the first time and it was good one. I rely heavily on my york rake to get the driveaway back into space and couldn't manage without it.
    Luckily, mud season is the shortest season here in Maine but it's certainly one that everyone has their own way of dealing with.

What To Do In Maine This Summer

We are located in central Maine in a area with many wonderful activities and family events.

Rafting, tubing, ATV Obstacle Course for kids, Geo Caching, 5 K race and more
-July 31- August 9th Bangor State Fair
A Large family fair featuring a midway, animal exhibits, crafts, commercial exhibits, flower show, animal pulling events, and harness racing
-August 7th-9th- Athens Fair
Small country fair with animal exhibits, crafts, and midway.
-August 13-22nd Skowhegan State Fair
A large family fair featuring a midway, animal exhibits, crafts, commercial exhibits, flower show, animal pulling events,tractor pulling and harness racing.
-August 27th-30th Piscataquis Valley Fair
A milking parlor with home made ice cream, agricultural exhibits, crafts, midway, animal pulling events.
-August 30th- September 6th- Windsor Fair
A large progressive fair with extensive agricultural , craft, art exhibits. Large midway, animal pulling events, harness racing, and mechanical pulling.
-September 10th-13th-Clinton Fair
Family atmosphere, midway, animal pulling events, mechanical pulling events, exhibits, stage entertainment.
-September 20th-26th- Farmington State Fair
Large midway, exhibit halls, livestock exhibits, animal pulling events, harness racing.
-September 25th-27th Unity Common Ground Fair
A celebration of rural life, demonstrations, Maine organic produced foods and crafts as well as livestock exhibits.
